Life, Understood

I know life is hard, some more than others. That’s a lesson I’ve learned, not cause I sought it, but rather I chose it. Could have been that straight “A” student since back in grammar school. Every teacher knew I could. I had the mind, I had the skills. Just never could find the drive. Settled for cruise control, average student who blended in. Stayed that way through my high school days; very few friends, but all acquainted. Grades didn’t change, all stayed the same. Nothing too extraordinary. Started college fresh from school, nothing changed still stayed in cruise. Figured two years then I’d disappear, leave the family, start fresh on my own. Explore the world, o’ the things I would see. Then one day without warning, I saw something I never did dream……befriending this creature, this freaking machine……..
